To install linux the PS3 offers a feature to re-partition the hard drive, however as far as I can remember the second partition is fixed at a static 10gb of space. I haven't toyed about with it much in honesty (since I'm not a big linux user), but I have heard that it is possible to run Windows on the PS3, except it runs at a ridiculously slow pace.
