Microsoft’s X07 cancelled, new UK Xbox 360 event to take its place

Well it looks like the UK’s existence is finally going to be acknowledged in the world of spotlight games conferences. A spokesperson confirmed with GamesIndustry.biz that Microsoft’s X07 event was no longer to take place, but that Microsoft were hoping to bring some sort of show to the UK.

“X07 is not going ahead,” the spokesperson confirmed.

“We’re looking at doing something here in the UK. It will be from a UK point of view, not from a European point of view.”

According to the spokesperson, the timing for the new UK event is “still to be confirmed”. However, he did state that it is set to take place “before Christmas”.

Good news for games journalists and gamers alike in the UK, hopefully this will help put the UK firmly on the world map for large industry conferences. Here’s hoping for some availability of tickets to the general public, although I doubt it!

Edge Magazine’s Top 100 Video Games of All Time

100_cover-thumb.jpgEdge Magazine have, from reader’s votes, compiled a list of the 100 best video games ever. Some interesting choices.

It is a travesty, however, that Oblivion has charted below Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (especially going by the 360 version of PES6, which was drastically limited in many ways). Quite surprised at Final Fantasy 12 being so high as well; then again, I haven’t played it yet.

In summary, here’s the top 10:

    1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina
    2. Resident Evil 4
    3. Super Mario 64
    4. Half Life 2
    5. Super Mario World
    6. Zelda: A Link to the Past
    7. Halo: Combat Evolved
    8. Final Fantasy XII
    9. Tetris
    10. Super Metroid

A full colour print special edition magazine version of the chart is on sale now, priced £10.

    If Fire Were Water

These rather cool images appeared on Digg within the last few days, and they’re so impressive I thought I’d post them up here! They also make a damn nice desktop background.
